BrainStorm Live Episode 9: Why Early Detection Is the Key In Finding Effective Treatments For Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s
Amprion’s CSO Dr. Claudio Soto talks about the importance of early detection & how it can potentially treat Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s. Today, there is no effective treatment available. Since early detection allows the tracking of the disease before irreversible brain damage has occurred, it may be possible to slow down the progression through lifestyle changes. Ultimately, early detection of the bad actors that cause the disease will empower and accelerate drug development for effective treatments of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Early Detection is Key to Treat Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s
Why do we want an early detection if there is no treatment to offer to patients? Well, my answer is that if we can detect the disease at the very early as we think we do, this is the moment where the disease is very weak so you can do many small changes that not necessarily have to be a treatment but the small changes in your lifestyle that could have a huge impact on how fast the disease will progress, changes like, for example, changes on eating, changes on exercise, quit smoking, trying to prevent any brain injury. So all are these risk factors that accelerate the progression of the diseases.
